Smartphones, and Why Everyone Should Have One
For the first time in human history, modern communications technology gives us the capability to communicate with virtually any other point on planet earth, provided that location has adequate cell phone coverage! Humans have come a long way from smoke signals and jungle drums. There is a reason they call it the World Wide Web; we have an electronic information “web” covering the entire globe, thanks to satellites. Smart phones are our connection to this information web. With a Smartphone, the individual has access to many more features, or “apps” (applications), than a simple voice-only cell phone.
The Smartphone is a multimedia player that is almost a pocket-size personal computer (PC). With it we can surf the Internet and can access any Wi-Fi hotspots. Most smart phones have touch screens and/or sliding QWERTY keyboards. There may be a camera in the phone, and digital video player/recorder. This feature allows for instant recording of various events and happenings, such as breaking news stories, and instantly shared with the entire world via the Internet. Never in history has there been this instantaneous communication feature, almost God-like in its power! Soon smart phones will be used for electronic payments for goods and services, like a debit card. You don’t want to be “left behind” without a Smartphone!
